AI SEO · Generative Engine Optimization

Generative Engine Optimization
that writes you into the summary.

When an assistant produces an overview or a best-of list, it reads several pages and writes one passage of its own. Generative Engine Optimization decides whether your brand is in that passage, and how it gets described.

Generated overview

“Best agencies for e-commerce SEO in Poland”

Shortlists for e-commerce SEO in Poland tend to mix full-service shops with search specialists. LineUp is described as a specialist option for marketplace & organic search work.

Our GEO strategy

  1. 01

    Get into the source pool

Be one of the pages an engine reads before it writes a word of its summary.

  2. 02

    Control the framing

Give the engine the sentence you want repeated, in the form it prefers to repeat.

  3. 03

    Cover the comparisons

Show up in roundups and shortlists, not only in direct questions about your brand.

  4. 04

    Track the description

Watch how you are characterised, not merely whether your name appears.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of making a brand one of the sources an AI engine blends into the longer passages it writes, such as category overviews, product comparisons and best-of roundups, and of shaping how those passages describe the brand.

The paragraph being written about your category has several authors.

Ask an engine for an overview and it does not pick a winner and quote it. It samples a pool of pages, keeps what it can reconcile, and writes a paragraph in its own words. Being in that pool is the whole game.

Passages are stitched from a pool

A generated overview blends wording from several pages into a paragraph that matches none of them exactly. Being the strongest single page counts for less than being one an engine can reconcile with everything else it read.

Inclusion is only half of it

Once your brand is in the passage, the sentence around it does the selling. A model that files you under budget options for very small teams has technically mentioned you and still lost you the deal.

Roundups harden over time

Once an engine settles on a set of names for best X for Y, it keeps repeating that set. New entrants get written in when enough independent sources place them alongside the incumbents, which is slow work with a long lead time.

GEO and AEO solve different halves of the same problem

Generative Engine Optimization and Answer Engine Optimization run on shared plumbing and most clients buy them together. Past that foundation they optimise for different shapes of output, and the work splits accordingly.

Answer Engine Optimization Generative Engine Optimization
Goal Be the source quoted in the direct answer to one question Be one of the sources blended into a longer synthesised passage
Unit of work A specific question and the claim that resolves it A topic, the comparison set around it and the language used about you
What wins Being the clearest and most verifiable answer available Being present across the source pool and described consistently within it
Measured by Citation share and answer presence per prompt Share of generated passages you appear in, plus the wording used about you
Fails when A competitor gets quoted in your place The passage gets written without you, or with the wrong scope attached to you

Who GEO is for

It pays off hardest in categories where buyers read an overview before they name anyone, and where that overview is already being written without you.

Crowded categories with a settled shortlist

If your market already has an agreed set of names, an engine will keep reproducing it. Breaking into that set is a different job to ranking, and it starts with understanding which sources the set is built from rather than which keywords sit above it.

Brands that get mentioned but framed badly

You appear in the overview and the sentence undersells you: the wrong segment, a service line you dropped, a scale you outgrew. Characterisation work corrects the record in the sources a model reads, which is the only place the correction sticks.

Products with a best fit worth naming

Buyers rarely ask which tool is best. They ask which is best for a mid-market team, a regulated industry or a particular stack. Those qualified roundups are winnable even when the unqualified version of the question is not.

Long research cycles

Where a purchase takes months and several people read up before anyone gets contacted, the generated overview is often the first impression of your business. It gets read by people you will never see in analytics and cannot follow up with.

How our GEO process works

A repeatable loop with an artifact at every step, so you can see what we changed and what the change moved.

  1. 1

    Topic and passage mapping

We collect the overviews, comparisons and roundups your buyers read, then record what each engine writes for them today. That transcript is the baseline everything else is measured against.

  2. 2

    Comparison set analysis

We map who else turns up in those passages and which sources each engine keeps returning to, which tells us what the model currently believes your category looks like.

  3. 3

    Source-shaped content

Pages rewritten into blocks that hold up when lifted and set beside a rival, with the scope of each claim stated inside the block rather than implied by the page around it.

  4. 4

    Characterisation

We fix the language used about you at source: one description of what you do and who you suit, repeated the same way everywhere a model is likely to read it.

  5. 5

    Corroboration across the pool

Models weight what independent sources agree on. We seed the listings, profiles and references that place your brand in the same set as the names already being written.

  6. 6

    Tracking and iteration

Monthly re-runs of the topic set across every engine, recording inclusion and wording together, so a shift in the passage can be tied back to a specific change we made.

Questions we get asked

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of making a brand one of the sources an AI engine blends into the longer passages it writes, such as category overviews, product comparisons and best-of roundups, and of shaping how those passages describe the brand.

How is GEO different from AEO?

Answer Engine Optimization targets the direct answer to one specific question. Generative Engine Optimization targets the longer passage an engine writes when it pulls from several sources at once, so the goal shifts from being quoted to being included and correctly characterised.

Does GEO replace our SEO work?

No. Generated passages are assembled from pages an engine can crawl and parse, so technical and organic SEO stay the foundation. Generative Engine Optimization adds the layer above it: comparison framing, consistent descriptions and corroboration across the pool of sources an engine samples.

How do you measure GEO?

We run your topic set against each engine on a fixed schedule and record two things: how often a generated passage includes your brand, and what that passage actually says about you. Presence and wording, tracked over time, are the report.

Which engines does GEO cover?

Generative Engine Optimization covers every surface that writes synthesised passages rather than lists: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews. Each one samples a slightly different pool of sources, so the same topic set is run against all of them separately.

How long does GEO take to work?

It depends on how often each engine refreshes the sources behind a topic and how much of the comparison set already mentions your brand. Structural and framing fixes can surface within weeks. Getting written into an established roundup usually takes longer, because corroboration accumulates.

Read the passages being written about you.

We will run your topic set across every major engine and send you the baseline: which overviews include you, which leave you out, and how the ones that include you describe your business.
